- You appear to not know death penalty sentences cost far more tax payer money than life in prison. When someone is given the death penalty, they are given automatic, mandatory and EXPENSIVE appeals that go on for years.

- Fortunately, they have lifted the statues of limitations for my state (Texas). Unfortunately, it's not retroactive. So I still cannot prosecute my father. But at least the secondary crime of being unable to prosecute won't continue to be a problem to more recent victims.

- In my case, my father has admitted it to my entire family. Everyone knows he raped me for 8 years when I was a child. My brother saw him coming out of my room. My mother went into the hospital when I told (how dare I tell and hurt her so bad!) so there are records of that.

- Why don't we make it no statues of limitations at all. He's 67 and I'm about to turn 50, and we're both beyond the 20 year mark. It took me the extra 30 years after I turned 18 to fully understand the impact of my father raping me for 8 years, starting at the age of 10.

No one forced these people to enlist. That is the point. You were told of your responsibilities and obligations when you chose to serve. Now you must accept and live up to them.
Do I have sympathy for people in this situation? Sure I do, but you made your choice when you signed up and now you should live up to it. Unless as someone mentioned before, you are willing to give up the benefits you have and will receive from the military, you should not be thinking anything more.
